Top Cop Lobbies For Pepper Spray

Police Commissioner Gary Griffith has again called for Government to consider regulating pepper spray. Speaking at a Town Meeting held in Princes Town on Monday evening, Member of Parliament for Princes Town, Barry Padarath, asked for an update from Mr. Griffith with regards to the non-lethal weapon. Days after the murder of Ashanti Riley in December, the Police Commissioner said he intended to recommend to Government to consider regulating pepper spray since he said it was proven to work as a protection tool for women around the world. Mr. Griffith did not mention the recent kidnapping of 23 year old Andrea Bharatt but renewed his call for pepper spray to be regulated. The Town Meeting in Princes Town was held to allay fears of residents about the repurposing of the St. Mary's Police Post and Tableland Police Station. Mr. Griffith assured them that the station would remain open 24/7, but would have more officers on patrol. The Police Commissioner maintained that residents have no need to fear the 21st Century Policing Model, which is a proactive method where there are more police on the road than in buildings. Late last year, residents of Blanchisseuse voiced similar concerns over the repurposing of the only police station in the area.
