Key Points from the Ministry of National Security’s Media Conference – Tuesday March 2nd, 2021: National Security Minister Stuart Young announced that there will be a Venezuelan Migrant Re-Registration Exercise in T&T for those migrants who first registered in 2019 to update their status. The Minister stressed that this Re-Registration Exercise is NOT an opportunity for those who entered T&T illegally to come forward and register now. It is strictly for those who registered in 2019 to update their records. The Venezuelan Migrant Re-Registration Exercise starts on Monday March 8th, 2021, and ends on Friday March 26th, 2021. Venezuelan migrants can download the Re-Registration forms (in Spanish) from the Ministry of National Security website. They are required to fill them out and place them at drop boxes located at: 1. 135 Henry Street, Port of Spain. 2. 2 Knox Street, San Fernando 3. Agricola Building, Scarborough. These buildings will be open from 7AM to 4PM to facilitate the dropping off of the documents. The required documents include: • One (1) completed Application Form 17A • Copy of Migrant Registration Card or Minister’s Permit • Recent Passport size photo (taken with a white background only) • Copy of bio-data page of passport/Cedula/UNHCR card • Proof of address in T&T • Job letter (addressed to the Minister of National Security) including: a. company letterhead/stamp b. employee’s job title, date employed, salary c. signature of Managing Director/Human Resource Minister Young said name, telephone number, and email address are critical to this exercise. At the end of the three week process, Immigration officers will contact the migrants to get their new cards. There will be no gatherings outside the buildings, in keeping with Public Health Guidelines. The new Registration Cards for Venezuelan migrants will be valid for a six month period. Minister Young stated that over 250 Venezuelans were repatriated in the last six months.
