Have a heart. This is the statement from President of the Communication Workers' Union, Joanne Ogeer, while speaking during a protest at State-owned TSTT on Friday. The action, which took place on Edward Street in Port of Spain, was held due to outstanding payments owed to current and retrenched staff since 2014. Ms. Ogeer claimed an agreement was reached following the conclusion negotiations in April 2020, when TSTT promised to make good on the payments. But she said another proposal has since been communicated to the Union. Ms. Ogeer added that the Union would not back down until a resolution is forthcoming, and promised to engage in more action if their questions fall on deaf ears. Joanne Ogeer was elected as the first female President of the Communication Workers' Union in December 2020.
