Managing COVID-19 In Pregnant Women

Forty one pregnant women were diagnosed with COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago. Director of Women's Health, Dr. Adesh Sirjusingh, said the cases were all successfully managed. During the Ministry of Health's Virtual Media Briefing, he said so far, there are no known foetal defects as a result of a pregnant woman contracting COVID-19. Dr. Sirjusingh said pregnant women are now considered to be at a slightly higher risk of severe COVID-19 infection and are more likely to be hospitalised when compared with the average healthy population. He said it is not necessary for them to deliver by Caesarean section. When it comes to the vaccine, he reiterated that pregnant or breastfeeding women would not be vaccinated.
