Thousands of residents in and around the Borough of Point Fortin were able to access medical services at their brand new 100-bed hospital today. All departments were transferred from the old Area Hospital, and were able to begin operations at the new facility on Monday, including the Accident and Emergency Department. Patients can now access outpatient and inpatient medical services in General Medicine, General Surgery, a Burns Unit, Psychiatry, Paediatric/Adolescence and High Dependency. The facility also boasts a helipad to quickly transfer emergency patients to other medical facilities across the island. The three storied facility is located at the corner of Techier and Point Fortin Main Road and was officially opened on July 20, 2020 by Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley. The Point Fortin Hospital cost $1.2 billion to build and equip.
