PM Rowley Clarifies 'Vaccines From India' Issue

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley said he first heard about vaccines from India from local doctors. During 'Conversations with the Prime Minister' on Thursday, Dr. Rowley said the Indian High Commissioner, Arun Kumar Sahu, spoke to local doctors about the vaccines and did not speak to the Government. He heard about it a second time when local businessmen were seeking to make arrangements to bring vaccines into the country. Dr. Rowley said it was then that Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Dr. Amery Browne, approached Mr. Sahu to find out about the reports of vaccines available from India. To this, his response was, "I don't know." But he said the supplier responded by saying that they were not taking any orders. Dr. Rowley said the vaccine suppliers took pre-orders from the wealthy countries.
