A new council of the Law Association has been voted in. Senior Criminal Defence Attorney Sophia Chote was unopposed as President. Voted in as Vice-President was Deputy Chairman of the Integrity Commission Rajiv Persad. He received 501 votes. Some 1,022 members voted on Friday at a virtual AGM and election. There are some 3,000 members in the Association eligible to vote. There were no valid nominations for the position of Treasurer, and a resolution was put to members to extend the date for nominations to March 31st. At the AGM, members also voted for ten senior and five ordinary members. Among the 10 senior members are Frederick Gilkes, Lynette Seebaran-Suite, Shankar Bidaisee, Mario Merritt, Christlyn Moore and Michael Rooplal.
