A large percentage of the millions of dollars owed to the University of the West Indies by its supporting countries has been paid. This from Vice Chancellor of The UWI, Sir Hilary Beckles, as he gave his virtual State of Our University Address on Monday. Sir Hilary said regional governments, who over the last several decades have owed money to the University of West Indies, have been moving to meet their obligations. Sir Hilary outlined the University's strategy to prevent a re-occurrence of the debts. Sir Hilary added that in addition to the student fees and their own generation of funds, the UWI would look to the private sector and their alumni to help generate funding.
