Macqueripe Beach Reopens

Members of the public have already begun to visit the recently-refurbished Macqueripe beach facility. The Chaguaramas Development Authority advised that the Beach Facility would have been closed for Emergency Maintenance, effective March 13th. Those works have been completed and the facility was reopened on Thursday. TTT News visited the beach on Saturday to get a first-hand look at the repairs. Earlier in March, Planning and Development Minister Camille Robinson-Regis said there was erosion, degradation and destruction of the safety features at the beach. Part of the short term repairs entailed the temporary repair of the railings until they can be removed and refurbished using cable wire. The stairs leading to the beach were power-washed and the area beautified. The beachgoers seemed to be pleased with the short term repairs at the facility. Some hoped that the refurbishment works would be maintained for quite a while.
