70 More COVID-19 Positive Cases

There are 70 new Positive COVID-19 cases in the country. The latest figure from the Ministry of Health brings the total number of active cases to 566. The Ministry says the new cases reflect results from samples taken during the period April 10th to April 12th. Eleven of the 70 new cases are from an offshore platform. Meanwhile, 35 people are being monitored by the Tobago Regional Health Authority after contact tracing was conducted in relation to Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley testing Positive for COVID-19. According to Acting County Medical Officer of Health in Tobago Dr. Tiffany Hoyte, all contact with the Prime Minister during what is considered to be the infectious period due to when symptoms developed, were in Tobago. However, she noted that some of those persons would have returned to Trinidad. Dr. Hoyte said health officials in Tobago continue to monitor those in quarantine there. Prime Minister Rowley was tested for COVID-19 on Easter Monday after developing symptoms related to the virus. One week later, the Office of the Prime Minister confirmed that he tested Positive for the virus again and added the Prime Minister will continue to be quarantined.
