COVID-19 cases are rapidly accelerating in the Caribbean and South America, where weekly case counts are five times higher than they were at this time last year.
Director of the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO), Dr. Carissa Etienne, says if infections continue to rise at this rate, countries across the region will need to maintain and even increase their ICU bed capacity.
Dr. Etienne said that the time is overdue to adjust our response, and countries must be prepared for what's in store.
