Barriers Erected On Harris Promenade

Barriers were erected around a portion of Harris Promenade in San Fernando on Wednesday to prevent persons from gathering in the area. Mayor of San Fernando, Junia Regrello, said the barriers are to help enforce the Public Health Regulations. He added that homeless persons often gather in the area because they are fed there by members of the public. The pastor who led the gathering on the Promenade on the weekend has since been arrested by police for breaching the Regulations. Senior Superintendent of the Municipal Police, Cecil Santana, who was on hand to oversee the erection of the barriers, said all manner of persons were gathering on the Promenade. Mayor Regrello advised persons to stop feeding the homeless on the Promenade, adding that those who want to provide meals can contact the Mayor's Office.
