Wallace's Swifts Lose To Sunshine Coast Lightning

It was a bittersweet outing for National Goal Shoot, Samantha Wallace, who had another fine shooting display, but it wasn’t good enough to avoid her New South Wales Swifts going under to the Sunshine Coast Lightning outfit 58-54. Both teams entered the game with identical 2-1 records, with the Swifts hoping to end a string of defeats away to the Lightning at the USC Stadium. Wallace missed one shot early, her first miss in a while, as she eased into her work, and by the half, she helped the Swifts edge ahead by one goal 33-32. However, a strong third quarter by the Lightning, punctuated by a series of telling defensive stops, in mid-court as well as in the final third, helped to limit the scoring opportunities of Wallace and the Swifts. And even though she still managed to miss just one shot from inside the semi-circle to finish with 36 of her 37 shots going in, she, like shooting mate Housby, each missed two of their three attempted super shots, and came up short by four goals in the end.
