15 COVID-19 Deaths Recorded, MOH Says Vaccine Preference Not A Priority

Fifteen more people have died due to COVID-19. The latest figures from the Ministry of Health bring the number of deaths to 390, with 221 of those deaths recorded in the month of May alone. There are 250 new cases of COVID-19 reported. The number of active covid-19 cases now stands at 8,150. With the resumption of the health's ministry's Vaccination Programme on Friday May 21st, a total of 67,324 persons received their first dose of vaccine, while 1,179 have so far received the 2nd and final dose. At this point in time, citizens would not be able to choose which vaccine they would like to be administered. Epidemiologist Dr. Avery Hinds says although both the AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines are available in the country, a person's preference for a vaccine may not be a priority right now. He says the main goal is to vaccinate as many people as possible in the shortest possible time, and they would be administered whichever vaccine is available at the time of the appointment. Dr. Hinds reminds though that the interchanging or mixing of vaccines would not be allowed.
