There are currently 40 cases of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children, or MIS-C, in Trinidad and Tobago and Acting Medical Chief of Staff at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Dr. Joanne Paul expects a further increase in the coming weeks. She says the increase normally comes four to six weeks after a surge in COVID-19 cases in the adult population, and says they are preparing for an increase soon. Dr. Paul says out of the current 40 MIS-C cases, 25 have tested COVID PCR or Antibody Positive, and 15 have tested PCR or Antibody Negative. But she notes there have been no deaths of any MIS-C cases to date. MIS-C is a rare but dangerous syndrome in children and teens ages 2-15 that is associated with the Coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
