T&T Picks Up 5 Medals At NACAC Games

It may be a small team but they are punching above their weight, so to speak, as the National contingent to the NACAC Track and Field championships in Costa Rica have so far picked up five medals after two days of the three-day competition. Javelin specialist Tyriq Horsford was the first TT athlete on show on Saturday, and he made sure of success with Gold in his pet event. He threw the spear 73.06-metres to secure the Gold with his fifth throw. Horsford fell behind to Keyshawn Strachan of the Bahamas after two throws each, with Strachan dropping a solid 72.13 to surge ahead, until Horsford found the winner with is fifth throw. Earlier, TT also copped Gold in the 400-metres hurdles thanks to Dillon Leacock's 53.45-seconds clocking. A Silver was won by 100-metre sprinter Leah Bertrand who crossed the line in 11.70-seconds, just behind Camille Rutherford of the Bahamas. TT's fourth medal came via Olympic-bound Kion Benjamin, who was third in the Men's century, clocking 10.40-seconds for the trip. And 400-metre specialist Rae-Ann Serville also landed Gold in the Under-20 category, with a time of 54.85, well ahead of second placed Akrisa Eristee of the British Virgin islands who clocked 55.66.
