Tobago Fishermen Demand Compensation From BHP Over Projected Losses

Tobago fishermen are calling for BHP Trinidad to provide them with compensation packages. This as President of the All Tobago Fisherfolk Association (ATFA), Curtis Douglas, says the oil company is soon to commence operation in Tobago's waters. Speaking to the media outside the Pigeon Point Fishing Facility on Friday, Mr. Douglas claimed that although they had a meeting with BHP in February, they were not informed that the company was granted clearance this month. He said this activity will negatively affect the Tobago fishermen's livelihood, and the island's marine resources. ATFA is also urging BHP and the relevant authorities to meet with Tobago fishermen as he indicated they have made repeated efforts to reach out to the Company. Mr. Douglas informed that they are scheduled to meet with Chief Secretary Ancil Dennis on the matter. TTT News reached out to BHP and we are awaiting a response.
