Building Leased To Three Cultural Groups

Three cultural performing arts groups in the Morvant/Laventille area have been given a place to call home following a Handover Ceremony on Tuesday. The Malick Folk Performing Company, North West Laventille Cultural Movement, and the Marcia Charles Dance Theatre Company received the keys to a building located on the Eastern Main Road in Laventille. It comes after discussions with Government since 2017 and according to Laventille West MP Fitzgerald Hinds, it will now be up to these groups to maintain and refurbish the State-owned property which was leased to them. He hopes that the building will inspire them to generate some income for themselves, as they continue to promote culture and the arts. Meanwhile, Minister of Public Administration, Allyson West, stressed the importance of these three iconic groups having a place of their own. The Minister also hopes these three groups will now use this opportunity to get more young people from Morvant/Laventille involved in culture and the arts.
