Flash Floods Affect Maraval And St. Ann's

Residents of St. Ann's and Maraval are tonight cleaning up after heavy afternoon showers in Port of Spain and environs brought mud into their homes. Both the St. Ann's and Maraval rivers burst their banks on Tuesday, resulting in flash flooding in surrounding communities. Two vehicles which were parked close to the riverbank on the St. Ann's Road were pushed into the river by the floodwaters. Mr. Roy was visiting a mechanic in the area at the time and had parked his car on the roadway. A few meters away residents chipped in to assist a homeowner whose yard became inundated with mud and debris. Member of Parliament for Port of Spain North/St. Ann's West, Stuart Young, visited the area to get a first-hand look at the damage. The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) indicated that the adverse weather activity began at 3pm on Tuesday and lasted for approximately 45 minutes, during which time roadways were rendered impassable due to street flooding and high amounts of rubble.
