Siparia Man Dies In Landslide

A 35 year old man lost his life in the Siparia region due to a landslide which impacted his home. Christopher Ancil Samuel's common-law wife, Alma Archargee, told TTT News that her husband died while trying to save his family. Member of Parliament for Point Fortin, Kennedy Richards Junior, said help will be on the way for clean up and mitigation of future mishaps. This came as Trinidad and Tobago has been experiencing adverse weather conditions associated with Tropical Storm Grace. The Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, Senator Kazim Hosein, has assured the public that the Disaster Management Units remain on high alert. Heavy rainfall occurring today is an effect of the Tropical Storm's outer bands and there have been some occurrences of flooding, landslides and fallen trees. For the day, there have been reports of street flooding and fallen trees in the areas of Port of Spain, San Juan/ Laventille, flash flooding in the Siparia region, and residential flooding in Penal/Debe. Disaster Management Units have ensured that sandbags are available for distribution.
