Parliament To Debate SoE Extension Today

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley will pilot a Motion for the extension of the State of Emergency in the Parliament today. The extension is expected to run for an additional three months - from August 31st until November 30th. The Motion can be passed by a Simple Majority vote and does not need the support of the Opposition. However, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said she does not support the extended SoE but will listen to the arguments with an open mind. Mrs. Persad-Bissessar urged people who are against the SoE to honk their horns and turn on their flashlights in protest. Parliamentarians will meet in House of Representatives from 1:30pm.
