T&T Guided By WHO On Booster Shots

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Roshan Parasram has not ruled out the possibility of this country approving booster shots for individuals, but says it will only be done once it's approved by the World Health Organization. Dr. Parasram notes that from the start of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, health officials have continued to speak about the possible need for booster shots. But he says Trinidad and Tobago will continue to stand on WHO policy. The CMO says, though, that Pfizer has already applied to the WHO to administer a third shot and T&T will wait until WHO gives that approval. Dr. Parasram also expects other vaccine manufacturers to apply to the WHO to get their booster shots approved, and expects further additions to the approved list once scientific data has been vetted. Dr. Parasram says if booster shots are approved, the plan will be to administer as many first and second doses as possible before considering a third shot, where the most vulnerable will be at the front of the line.
