Police Officer Injured In Drive-By Shooting In Tunapuna

A member of the Port of Spain Task Force and a Prison Officer were shot at in an alleged drive-by incident at Sheriff Street, Tunapuna on Tuesday night. TTT News understands that officers of the Port of Spain Task Force received the information and proceeded to the scene where officers met PC Mungalsingh with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his left hand. He reported that around 7:25pm he was in company of his neighbour Prison Officer, Umar Akil Farrell, at a shop when they observed a black vehicle proceeding slowly along the street. The occupants of the vehicle opened fired at the men. Farrell, a licensed firearm holder, returned fire. Officers later proceeded to a location where two pistols and two extended magazines were recovered. PC Mungalsingh was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex were he was treated and discharged. One person was later held at the Arima General Hospital nursing gunshot wounds. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
