Lara Joins Hyderabad Staff

The Prince of Port of Spain is heading to the biggest stage in cricket, the IPL, albeit in a coaching capacity. Brian Lara has joined the support staff of Indian Premier League outfit Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the coming season. He will take up duties as strategic advisor and batting coach, while the other inclusion to the staff, former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn, will be the pace bowling coach. Australian Tom Moody will return as Head Coach after serving as Director of Cricket in the 2021 season in which they finished bottom of the table under the stewardship of another Australian Trevor Bayliss. Under Bayliss, Sunrisers won just three matches out of the 14 in the group stage. Whereas Moody, a familiar name in the set-up, had coached the team for seven consecutive years from 2013 to 2019 and helped the Sunrisers clinch the title in 2016. Under Moody, the team also went past the group stages five times. World record holder Lara will be working alongside former Aussie Simon Katich in the batting department while India’s Hemang Badani is the fielding coach. Katich was the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021. Muttiah Muralidaran continues to be the spin bowling coach.
