WASA: Sewer Pipeline Works At Beetham To Be Completed By End Of January 2022

Sewer pipeline works along Main Street in Beetham will be completed by the end of this month. The confirmation from the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) came after residents engaged in a protest on Monday morning to highlight their frustration over ongoing works that commenced back in October last year, which they say has caused a strong stench over time. The protest caused gridlock traffic along the Highway as residents burned debris on both the Eastbound and Westbound lanes. However, WASA said what appears to be a pause in works at the site occurred as the Authority was awaiting the delivery of three specially-made concrete cylinders to replace the collapsed segment of the concrete sewer pipeline. The Authority says the cylinders were received and transported to the site today, which will allow the final phases of the works to be completed. WASA notes that the Authority visited the community on two occasions with the Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales, and Laventille West MP Fitzgerald Hinds to view the progress and speak to affected residents about the ongoing work. It also assured that the Authority has installed various pumps within the area to minimise sewage spills over the period.
