Long Lines At SAPA For Cruise Ship Jobs

A second day of long lines of people waiting for several hours to be interviewed for the Royal Caribbean Group's Seafarer Recruitment Initiative, this time in San Fernando. Hundreds turned up at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts (SAPA) on Wednesday, some even waited on the pavement in front of the building from the night before. One hopeful cruise ship job applicant we spoke to told us he had been outside SAPA since 6am. He said he waited in the line for five hours and was disappointed when the rains came. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts is urging members of the public who are interested in Royal Caribbean's Recruitment Initiative that, in an effort to ensure a seamless process, they must have proof of a completed online application. The Ministry says as at Monday, 2,884 applicants had successfully registered and submitted their applications through the online recruitment portal. Applicants are further advised that those who have completed applications and were not seen during the Recruitment Fair will be contacted for virtual interviews with the RCG team out of Miami by August 2022.
