More Time For Procurement Act

The proclamation of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Legislation Act will be halted following further consultation with stakeholders. Attorney General Reginald Armour made the announcement at a Press Conference on Wednesday following his statement in the House of Representatives. According to the AG, this decision was made following concerns raised by the Office of the Procurement Regulator and the Judiciary. He noted that the Prime Minister and the Cabinet are committed to the proclamation of the Act in the shortest possible time and acknowledged that based upon the recommendations and concerns by the responsible state bodies, the preparation time was insufficient for the Act's proclamation. The Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Act, 2015 was debated and passed in the Parliament but has not yet been proclaimed, making it actionable. When proclaimed, the Act will provide for the retention and disposal of public property, in accordance with the principles of good governance and the establishment of the Office of Procurement Regulation.
