Caura Hospital To Treat Monkeypox

Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh says a designated facility has been established to isolate and treat suspected and confirmed cases of the Monkeypox disease. This follows Monkeypox being listed as a Dangerous Infectious Disease under Section 103 of the Public Health Ordinance, with immediate effect. According to the Health Minister, the approval of an Order by the Quarantine Authority allows for special measures to be taken manage the spread of the disease under Section 6 (1) of the Quarantine Act. These pieces of legislation will allow the Ministry to quarantine those who are suspected or confirmed cases of Monkeypox with a foreign travel history. Those with no link to travel will be isolated and treated. The Monkeypox disease joins the list of ten dangerous infectious diseases in the country which include Yellow Fever, Ebola, Sars and Covid-19.
