No CEC For Stage At Scarborough Seafront

The Tobago House of Assembly did not receive environmental clearance from the Environmental Management Authority for the construction of the stage on the seafront in Scarborough. This confirmation was provided by Secretary for Infrastructure, Quarries and the Environment, Trevor James. Speaking with TTT News on Tuesday, Mr. James said the Tobago House of Assembly will move forward in building out the infrastructure that Tobago requires. In a release on Tuesday, the EMA said they note with concern that several infrastructural works are being undertaken in Tobago without the requisite Certificates of Environmental Clearance (CEC) adding they are investigating these works. The EMA provided a reminder that the CEC process is a mandatory requirement by law to assess the potential impacts of proposed activities on human health and the environment. The stage is being constructed for Tobago's upcoming Carnival. Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine at the Tobago House of Assembly's Monday Mandate said an assessment was conducted on the project.
