Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has announced that 2,500 CCTV cameras are being installed across the country to help catch the criminal elements, with another 2,500 to be procured soon. Speaking at a PNM Meeting in Chaguanas on Tuesday, Dr. Rowley continued to defend his Government’s crime fighting initiatives noting that close to 4000 firearms were taken off the streets in 60 months. He recalled a meeting held on Monday with various security agencies including the Police Service, where a main suggestion was to improve visibility through technology. The Prime Minister said the murder toll as at Tuesday evening stood at 509, and said he is concerned as to what would’ve been the figure if Government was not doing all it can to stop the criminal elements.
