Trio In Court For Fake RO/RO Import Licenses

A Trade Officer employed with the Ministry of Trade and Industry was charged with 9 counts of misbehaviour in public office and misbehaviour in Public Office for issuing fraudulent licenses to a business place. Two secondary facilitators were also charged. The three persons were granted a total of $700,000 bail. Forty three year old Vidya Ramdass an employee of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, 66 year old Chhatrapal Lowkaran, a Foreign Used Car Dealer, and 68 year old Edward Fraser, a Foreign Used Car Dealer, were charged on Thursday. Police state that Ramdass issued fraudulent licenses to the two Foreign Used Car Dealers from November 2020 to July 2021. Ramdass was granted bail with surety in the sum of $350,000, while Lowkaran and Fraser were granted bail with surety in the sums of $200,000 and $150,000 respectively. The trio is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on December 20th.
