Tribute To Black Stalin

The original fireman, the quintessential Caribbean man, the lyrical poet, Dr. Leroy Calliste, also known as Black Stalin, passed away at the age of 81 at his home in San Fernando on Wednesday. Black Stalin was a five-time Calypso Monarch and Hummingbird Medal Silver Awardee. He was also conferred with an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the West Indies in 2008. Today we pay tribute to him through the eyes of Assistant Professor of Arts, Letters, Culture and Public Affairs Unit at the University of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Rudolph Ottley, who has authored 14 books on Calypso, as well as Caribbean Music Specialist, aka The UK Prince of Soca, DJ Martin Jay.
