Axe Back Passes

Tobago cultural icon Rawle Titus has passed on. The Secretary, Councillor Tashia Burris, and staff at the Tourism Division are extending their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the former Vice President of the Senate, Cultural Icon and Anthropologist, also known as “Axe Back” Titus. Mr. Titus passed away yesterday, Monday. He was well known for his significant involvement in the Prime Minister's Best Village Competition and his many years as a Calypsonian under the sobriquet 'Axe Back'. The Division says his commitment to the island's cultural fraternity spanned over 60 years and was certainly revered throughout Tobago. As a result, in 2019, Mr. Titus was among those honoured by the Division for his contributions to the Tobago Heritage Festival in the fields of composition, dance, choreography and playwright. In their sadness, The Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation joins the rest of the nation in mourning the passing of this champion of Tobago's Culture. They pray: May his soul rest in peace.
