CSO Releases Index of Retail Prices – November 2022

The Central Statistical Office says its figures for retail prices in the Month of November 2022 show an increase in the all items index of retail prices by 0.2% over last October’s. The Index of Retail Prices (RPI) is a weighted average of the proportionate changes in the prices of a specified set or 'basket' of consumer goods and services within a certain time periods. The CSO says there was also an increase in the Index for Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages by one percent for the same period. According to the CSO, the rise in the prices of frozen and fresh beef, chilled or frozen pork, melongene, carrots, cucumber, pumpkin, onions, green (sweet) pepper and cabbage significantly contributed to the increase in the index . But it notes that the full impact of these price increases was offset by general decreases in the prices of tomatoes, ochroes, full cream powdered milk, garlic, oranges, fresh steak, shrimp and crab, salted pig tail, and Irish potatoes. Meanwhile The Inflation Rate for November 2022 was 5.6%. This is an increase from 5.3% from the previous period.
